Next, I am pleased to show off a primer for the world of Steel Horizons and it’s setting, the continent of Algara. Without any further ado, let’s jump in!

What is Steel Horizons?

It has been years since the Great War ended and the continent of Algara is still partially in ruins. Led by the power of large, lumbering mechs, the nations of Algara waged war on a scale previously unseen before in its history. Powered by the seemingly unlimited energy source, Pyric, created by the visionary Anglorian scientists Hildegard Schmid the weapons and armor of the world had been forever changed. Even now, as the Great War has ended, the nations of Algara still secretly gather their strengths and seek the harness the power of Pyric and use it to power their armies.

Within the world of Algara, there have been many nations that have risen and fallen. Of those that remain, six have cemented their place in the modern world. Far to the north, within the aptly named Misty Isles, the members of the Highland Clans seek to send their agents further into the mainland of Algara in attempts to control the manufacturing and distribution of both the raw Hildenium and the weapons of war that it fuels. On the northern end of the Algaran mainland, sits the snowy realm of Jarlheim. A region of hardened warriors and also cunning merchants, the citizens of Jarlheim do their best to rebuild after the Great War and reclaim lost lands. Jutting out into the narrow straights between the Misty Isles and the Algaran mainland is the small nation of Valka. While the smallest of the nations of Algara, Valka is a proud country that after joining the Great War during its waning years, seeks to find its place among the other superpowers of the world.

Within the central mainland of Algara, three main nations vie for control. The largest nation within the central regions, the Anglorian Empire controls the most lands after the Great War and has its sights set on its former rival, the Orland Kingdom to the east. Striving to keep their independence, the Orland Kingdom attempts to hold its ground while surrounded by possible conquerors. On the eastern side of the mainland of Algara, sits the nation of Trezkana. A nation of workers and a massive military, Trezkana seeks to reclaim its honor after its defeat during the Great War.

In the southern reaches of Algara is the small nation of nomads within the Taran Steppe.  The Taran Nomads, while more of a loose federation than an actual country, claims all the lands of the southeastern parts of Algara. Even though, the Nomads kept out of the Great War entirely, they are still seen as a threat to much of the Algaran mainlands.

It is in this world of smoke and steel you find yourself. Whether you are a simple mercenary carving out a reputation looking for gold, a feared marksmen stealthily making their way through the ruined landscapes of Algara, or even a noble officer, fresh out of the Great War, the world is yours to explore and shape your own destiny. Anyone can make their way and find their place in the world, just beyond the Steel Horizon.

What system does Steel Horizons use?

Steel Horizons is a new TTRPG set in the diesel-punk setting of Algara. Algara is a world of towering mechs, political intrigue, and powerful "Slingers" controlling the raw power of Pyric energies. Steel Horizons is a new setting where players take on the roles of adventurers, mercenaries, mechanics, and so much more to carve out their own place in the world. As of now, were are currently in the first Alpha build and have four main archetypes created with two specializations for each!

What classes can we play?

Within the early build of Steel Horizons there are four main archetypes, each representing a classic archetypes of many tabletop role-playing games.

The Mercenary is a rough and tough class focused on being able to wade into combat and deal damage with an array of heavy weaponry. Either training with the Heavy specialization to wield high damage dealing weapons and explosive ammunition or following the path of the Vanguard and throwing caution to the wind to pierce through the armor of any enemy, Mercenaries are powerhouses of Algara.

The Mechanic acts as the support of the group, able to spot weaknesses in enemy armor as well as fix any problem, they keep their allies in the fight. Whether focusing on healing their allies and following the Medic training or continuing training as an Engineer to keep any piece of gear going, Mechanics need to have a keen eyes and steady hands.

The Scout is able to move through the various terrain of the world with near impunity as they stalk their targets. Those who specialize in the tracking and movement through difficult terrains follow the path of the Pathfinder. Those who prefer to engage their targets from range with high damage dealing weapons instead follow the path of the Sniper.

The Slinger controls the wild and sometimes unpredictable power of the raw energies of Pyric. Managing to contain these powers in the high tech Pyric Cores, Slingers use these energies to control the battlefield. Those who manage to tap into their own inner powers, the Infused, can channel even more power from their Cores than others around them. The Tech Slingers, however, have studied the properties of Pyric Cores and are able to tap into previously unknown properties of the Cores.

How can we play?

As the development is still in its very early builds, Steel Horizons is not currently ready for play-testing. However, if you decide to join our Discord, you can gain automatic access to periodic updates as we continue working on Steel Horizons!

As always, keep wandering!
