Rise

Rise Devlog #2 2/23/25

So, it has been awhile!

Between my wife and son getting sick, me getting sick, and everyone having trouble sleeping, it has been A LOT.

Thankfully, tonight, I got to put in some work on Rise. Most of it is very bare bones and needs some polish, but in terms of a "proof of concept" I think its coming along well!

  • Added in Backstab system on Enemy Grunts

  • Added in Riposte system for Grunts and Bosses to deal heavy damage

  • Added in Death Screen

  • Added in Boss Defeat Screen

Pretty happy with what we have so far, but in terms of the long term roadmap, there' still a bit left

  • Finish level design for "The Citadel"

  • Add SFX and particle effects for Riposte and Backstab

  • Find skin assets for Grunts

  • Work on Menu UI

  • Work on Save/Load System

  • Integrate Shrine/Bonfire system

But, until then, enjoy some WIPs of the Backstab, Riposte, and end screens!

Rise Devlog #1 2/10/25

As of the current moment, I’ve been working through a Udemy course about making a Souls-like combat system and we've gotten pretty far already

  • Added in new weapons and accompanying weapon animations (sword and shield, two handed, dual weild)

  • Added in a modular enemy to use various weapon styles

  • Added Stamina and Health systems with HUD UI

  • Added in Bosses with dedicated AI, name and Health UI, and boss music

  • Added Potion system with healing mechanics

There still much more to go, but Attached are some video updates to show off progress, the WIP design sheet of outlining the game, as well as a preview of a second Boss (edited)

Welcome!

Hey all!

So at the beginning of this year, 2025, I made myself a resolution to teach myself Unreal Engine 5. For years, even as far back as when I first got into college, game design was a passion of mine. My first semester at school I actually took Computer Science classes to learn programming and attempt to make my own games. Sadly, I bounced off the course at first and ended up pursuing another major. However, in the following years, I still kept that dream in my head and often still attempted to teach myself C++ and other programing languages.

Now, I’ve taken my first steps and with the help of a Udemy course, I have begun work on my first ever game! Also, no need to worry, there are still plenty of amazing TTRPGs still in the works. For now, I am more than happy to introduce you to the WPG Dev Log as we chronicle the journey to create my very own video game.

So far the working title is "Rise", a game set in my DnD campaign world dealing with the character trying to fight their way out of the underworld. Some of you might have seen some posts from our Bluesky account, but I figured it would be nice to compile all the information here in one organized space.

For now, enjoy the attached image, as it shows a brief outline of what this game actually would look like!
